I had seen a photograph of this place on Instagram and instantly knew that we would pay it a visit.
Casa en el Agua, the house on the water.
We boarded a speed boat from the marina in Cartagena early one morning. It was already scorching hot. The boat set out into the Carribbean sea, the cool sea breeze refreshing us after sitting in the heat. We watched as the skyline of Cartagena vanished into the distance.
2 hours later we were greeted by a group of people singing and dancing. 'Welcome to our house' they were singing over and over.
An old Colombian holiday home - 25 year old wooden structure built on concrete foundations on the sea floor, surrounded by the San Bernado islands - pure bliss.
Since 2014 the casa has been transformed into an eco-hostel - fit with bucket showers and dry toilets, no wifi and all the electricity is generated by solar panels!
Once we had checked in, we were straight into our swimming cossies and enjoying the turquoise waters that surrounded us.
After a beautiful afternoon playing in the ocean, we were served our fish dinner, freshly caught by the local fishermen. It was delicious. Drinks were flowing and we were greeted with the most stunning sunset. Magic.
